ROSCOE UMALI

"It is very important to me that I leave a legacy and pave the way for other Asian American emcees coming up in the industry.  I want them to be able to look at me and say, 'If he can do it, so can I'."

Los Angeles native Roscoe Umali graduated from UCLA at the top of his class and went into advertising, then managing a mortgage company for several years before entering the hip hop world as an emcee.  He has been rapping since he was a kid when his uncle exposed him to it, but he never actively pursued it until 2005.

Since then, Roscoe has traveled all over the world displaying his emcee skills, including Spain, London, and South Korea.  He is a group member of Drunken Tiger, a famous South Korean hip hop group. He has worked with many artists such as Raekwon, Smif N Wessun, Apl.de.ap, West Coast Kam, DJ Qbert, and the World Famous Beat Junkies.  He currently holds the record for most guest appearances on The Wage Up Show with Sway and King Tech, beating Eminem's record.

Roscoe is best known for his single, "Live it Up" with E-40, J.Black, and Bobby Valentino.  The independent single was #1 in radio's rhythmic charts for the last quarter of 2007 and the first quarter of 2008, and is continuing to create a buzz for the Filipino emcee.  The single is on Roscoe's street album I Love My DJs, available in stores now.

The single will also appear on his debut album, World's Finest, dropping later this year under the record label Artisans Entertainment /AOW Records.  The album will feature artists Talib Kweli, E-40, I15, Colby Odonis, Murphy Lee, and Dead Prez, and the production talent of Amil G., DK ALL DAY, Focus, Illmind, Jellyroll and DJ Khalil.

In February 2008, Vlado Footwear released a Roscoe Umali sneaker which is modeled after the Philippine flag.  It is available for purchase at myspace.com/roscoe.
