Although NUMP, aka Nump Trump began rapping at the age of 13 and DJing at 16, his music career didn't take off until he got behind the boards as a recording engineer. Upon graduating top rank at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe, Arizona, he went back to the Bay Area and did up to 60 hours a week at an unpaid intership at Studio 880, working with a handful of artist, including Green Day and Blackalicious.
After a year, he transferred to Infinite Studios and became house engineer, working with his favorite Bay Area artists like E-40, Messy Marv, Keak Da Sneak, Rick Rock, Nate Dogg, and Mac Dre. Nump has been engineering the hyphy movement since its birth. He is also credited with mixing solo albums of funk legend Michael Cooper and conga legend Giovanni Hidalgo.
Nump is best known for his single "I Got Grapes" featuring E-40 and The Federation, produced by D1. The single recieved significant radio airplay in the bay area and is considered a hyphy classic. In appeared on his second solo album, The Nump Yard, released on his own label, Bay Luv Records, and later re-released in 2006 on 3030/Sik Wid It Records. "I Got Grapes (Tree Mix)" was released on April 20, 2007 featuring M.I.A., Apl.de.ap, and DJ Qbert.
Nump has been featured on albums such as DJ Shadow, Droop E., Mossie, Messy Marv, and DB'z. Other miscellaneous achievements include his own cartoon character on Myx TV's "The Nutshack", a short segment on MTV's My Block, a Philippines tour with Apl.de.ap and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, an "I Got Grapes" shoe by Dekline, and celebrity endorsement for Magnolia brand ube ice cream.
